Full Face Using DB Daydreamer Brush Set

"I carried a watermelon" - Baby, Dirty Dancing
Hey howdy hey blogosphere! Today's post is a review type/opinion thing on a product I own, as per the description of what this blog is about ha! I want to do a full face of makeup using a new brush set I've recently added to my collection, and give you my thoughts along the way.
The product - Designer Brands Daydreamer Brush Set
Available at - www.dbcosmetics.com.au/
Price - $29.99 (works out to about $3 per brush)
Additional details - DB is cruelty free and vegan! Their site offers Afterpay.

My first thoughts were that the roll up case with a clasp they come in is gorgeous, and honestly for $30 this set is definitely worth the money and then some! The brushes themselves are pink, white, and silver which I feel fits the 'daydreamer' aesthetic, and they feel delightfully soft! I did notice that the bristles aren't very densely packed though which shouldn't prove an issue for makeup application with powdered products but I do have a concern about that foundation brush stippling brush not doing the job. It could be that I'm just used to using the e.l.f Selfie Ready Blurring Brush for my foundation and those are quite full and dense.

I should note that I am writing this post as I go today, making notes where I can, photographing along the way, and am probably doing housework and tending to my kidlets between trying to focus on what I'm doing here haha I want this to be a 'real life' blog, and I'll post when I can around my usual day to day activities and responsibilities. There is no sitting down for hours at a perfectly organised vanity with adequate lighting and a high-def camera rolling here!

Edit- it's now 1.47pm... I started writing this this morning and haven't had a chance to start the makeup stuff yet. I had the best of intentions!

Edit again- It's now 2.08pm the following day... still haven't had a chance to sit down and do this. I ran chores this morning while feeling a bit sick, and now the kids are *I think* about to have a short nap and I had a shower and tried to pep up to do my makeup I still feel too much like shit. Why did I think starting a makeup blog would be a good idea? Kinda just want to stuff my face with chips and watch Youtube now.

AND I'M BACK.

So... can you apply a full face with this brush set? Yes! The only thing I felt was missing was a concealer brush. I tried to make the foundation brush work for concealer, it was hard, but I managed. This is the face I came up with! My eye shadow was a lot more vivid in reality but for some reason I haven't worked out the best way to photograph that yet, the pictures I take just aren't quite cutting it.
Foundation brush - It absorbs a lot of product, not very dense, but didn't leave streaks in my foundation and buffed it in nicely. I used two of my fuller coverage foundations mixed together, the DB Long Wear foundation and my Milani Conceal+Correct.
Powder brush - Picks up a lot of product!! Definitely don't just stick it straight in your powder container like I did, and like I usually do with my other powder brushes, because you'll end up with half of it in your brush. Are you not supposed to do that anyway? Meh, I do haha
I used the same brush for blush and for bronzer. My blush is the new OXX Kmart brand baked blush in 02 Apricot and for a baked product it was surprisingly soft! It does have a pretty pigment to it, but it is very shimmery so I'd maybe use it as a blush topper? When I  use it again I will probably wear it in the evening, or without highlight if it's looking like too many sparkles on my face.
Angled Contour brush - For contour in a powdered product this brush is maybe a little too large. It's hard to get a sculpted line and then harder still to blend out. I ended up using the Deluxe Crease brush for my nose contour.
Fan brush - for highlight this works the same as any other fan brush, does the job. I used my re-pressed E.l.f baked highlight in Moonlit Pearls.
As I've mentioned I'm really impressed about there being two crease brushes in this set, both of which work just fine. The flat shader is a good size, and the eye liner brush is so teeny tiny I will definitely give that a shot next time I do a shadow liner. It's kinda hard to tear me away from my fave KPopxAustralis liquid liner... that shit is SO GOOD! So good in fact I saw it was on sale so I ordered two more in case this sale is a precurser to *discontinued*. Typical.

Every time I do my face I learn something new about the contours and such, I still haven't nailed how to do my eyes in the best way for their shape, and that's where I think having a blog and photos of past looks comes in handy to check back on and learn from. Also my brows are hairy caterpillars at the moment because I'm growing them out to reshape them. Doing my brows is another thing I haven't mastered yet...what do you do when you have solid black eyebrow hairs that are singularly thick and long, but not a dense growth? Any strokes I put on the surrounding skin to reshape them with makeup just looks super obvious. Anyone else in the same boat?

One Month One Palette - 'Spring Time in Paris' by Jouer

Sunday, 1 April 2018
@salted_fish_roll on IG posted about #onemonthonepalette, the idea that you use one eye shadow palette for a whole month to get to know it, work different looks with it, and try to make use of your palette collection. I'm down with doing that! Coincidentally it's the 1st of April today (and also Easter Sunday... so happy Easter!) so I shall begin today. It's also my birthday month this month! Now, what palette to use? I'd love to use my BH cosmetics Wild and Alluring palette because it's colourful and super fun looking but the whole thing is baked shimmers. Unless I wear full on glitter for a month, and it IS my birthday month so I could probably get away with it!

Zoeva Cocoa Blend is always a winner but I feel like I know it pretty well these days. Colourpop's My Little Pony palette is beautiful but I think requires more skill to use everyday for a month than I possess. In saying that though, after a month I'd probably have nailed that. Still, the colours don't lend themselves to easy 'I have two kids and sometimes cant spend time on my eye shadow looks and I'd like to have a selection of neutrals to play with on those days.

I finally settled on my Jouer Springtime in Paris.

As you can see I have used it a little before, and I do have thoughts on it based on those times. From what I've learnt, this formula is fairly powdery and has a lot of kickback when you swirl a brush in a pan. The foils require a little work to build up (that shade of blue is notorious for being tricky to work with in most palettes), and I have had trouble with the colour fading throughout the day. The challenge will be using primer and/or concealer, wetting my brush with setting spray for the foils or using them for a cut crease, and being precise with the darker shades as some of them don't blend as nicely as they could do. Geez, maybe I should just use the My Little Pony palette!
But I'll make it work!
Now for some photos and some swatchy-swatches. I can't include both finger and brush swatches because my progeny and my shitfully messy house require my attention, and also I can't be bothered waiting until I have time to do both. It's possible I overstretch myself in my responsibilities and commitments, just a little bit.
But anyway, here we go...

I'm not really sure yet how I want to document each look made with this palette. I feel like posting it every time I use this palette to Instagram would be a bit boring, so I might just snap a photo of each look I create with this and create a collage to post at the end of the month. How about that?

So there we have it! Actually I'm feeling cool as a cucumber about using one eye shadow palette all month. It's going to make the decision making process a shitload quicker! I nearly have a full face worth of #projectpan products I'm working through. I'm hoping I'll have made progress through that damn never ending concealer by May!!

CoverGirl's Queen Latifah Lip Colours

Wednesday, 21 March 2018

Today's irrelevant quote is...
"Fuckeroni and Cheese!" - Markiplier Game, Youtube

Rightio, so hello blogosphere and the mysterious people of the internet! Today I'm going to put on the lip colours I have from the Cover Girl 'Queen' collection and include them in a post. Why? So I have them here for future reference and for anyone else who gives a damn how they look. That's what this beauty blog thing is about, isn't it?

Now I wasn't entirely sure if it was a THE Queen collection or a Freddy Mercury Queen collection but the colours and packaging was pretty and it was on sale. Therefore I bought them. Google tells me they belong to neither of those things and were actually created by Queen Latifah! Theres's more information on that {HERE}. She created a whole collection of makeup to suit (a variety of) darker skin tones which I think is fucking fantastic! As opposed to two shades of brown named after some food item amidst 50 shades of white like most other brands do, who in turn are shitty at inclusiveness.

The colours I have in the lipsticks are -
0445 'Girly Pink'
0440 'Penelope Pink'
0515 'Paint The Town'
What do they smell like? Like lipstick. And they taste like lipstick. Lipstick flavoured.

and the gloss shades I have are -
Q640 'Plum Berry'
Q700 'Spiced Latte'
Q630 'Flame'
What do they smell like? Chai latte! And they taste like nothing. Nothing flavoured! Which I'm completely fine with.

Annnnd here's what they look like on my face. Prepare for a lot of photos of my face...well, lips anyway. I is not bootiful person, I is normal everyday hooman bean who likes ze makeups. Therefore there will be imperfections, crooked teeth, and facial fuzz. And probably nose hair because that shit hurts to pull out.

I found these lipsticks very soft and smooth to apply and comfy on the lips. This particular shade has gold shimmer in it and I really like it!

A more pastel pink shade which usually doesn't work on me, but this colour is just beautiful and totally wearable on me.

A really lovely soft warm red, best worn with a lip liner. I'm not wearing one here and you can see a little bit of feathering around the edges.

I'm actually excited to try each of these glosses over top of the lipsticks and see how that looks, I didn't get a chance to do that today.

And yeah, that's about it! As I don't really know what else to say I'm going to go and entertain my smallest spawn so he stops jumping on my back while I'm trying to type xx

Project Pan #4 March

Monday, 12 March 2018

"Well hello" - Finis Everglot
March already, is it? Well fuck, how did we get here? It's time to update on my current Project Pan progress and I have good news! I finally emptied one of my items! Booyah. If you want to catch up on the previous 3 project pan posts you can do so {HERE} over at Of Crochet and Life but from here on in I'll be continuing that and all other makeup related goodness right here at It Puts The Makeup On Its Face. Ok so lets get into it.
1. E.L.F Poreless Primer and BYS Lumizing Primer
This month I decided to focus on the BYS primer on its own as its really just been too hot to double prime with both and it was too heavy, despite doing a brilliant job at covering the pore-craters on my cheeks. I think I'd written in a past month's PP that the BYS primer was a little too drying when used alone but I've since learnt with further use that I wasn't using enough of it. A generous squeeze does the job and it doesn't have the same slip on tthe skin as the E.L.F one does. Ramble ramble ramble... I'm trying to say I like it. And it wasn't what was pilling, the Palmer's Eventone Moisturiser I was using was the culprit there! I've since switched to L'Oreal Skin Perfecter and the problem has stopped.

2.  BYS Conceal and Correct
As I mentioned last month I haven't really been needing this as much on my cheeks since my skin tone has improved with a better care routine but I do still use the green over my nose as the redness is there to stay I think. Thanks to childhood eczema for the hyper pigmentation. The yellow is still in use because lets face it, the bags under my eyes aren't going anywhere.

3. MUD Defining Contour and Highlight
Yep. Still digging away at that contour shade! I'm still trying to build up my confidence to using contour a little heavier than I have been. I go for the 'barely there' look but then the contour looks... well... barely there.

4. Cover Girl Loose Powder in 110 Translucent
Using it everyday. Loving it! Steadily making progress. I did switch over to my Coty Airspun for a day or two but actually noticed the white cast it left that my trusty Cover Girl doesn't do.

5. L'Oreal Paris Blush in 90 Luminous Rose
This has been my daily go-to blush (naturally, as I trying to pan it), it's definitely not the perfect blush tone for me but I'm using it. I need to get my hands on some NARS blush in 'Orgasm'...maybe one day when I'm disgustingly rich. It's not terrible as such, just not the best colour choice for my skin tone.

6. Mermaid Salon Tokyo Lights Highlight
Used almost every day bar 2 when my Wet n Wild Rainbow Unicorn highlighter arrived and I couldn't help myself. Oh, actually I think I also used the pink shade from my Lime Crime Opals Hi Lite but it was necessary for a particular look I was doing.

7. Rimmel Stay Glossy in 260 My Eternity
I used it once this month over KatyKat Cover Girl lipstick and it was perfect for that. The mauve tones worked beautifully to enhance one another. I'm wearing it in my second IG post on the new account actually, scroll to the bottom of my blog and you'll see my latest posts there. I forgot to take a photo of this one and I'm too lazy to add it in now.
8. Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer in Very Fair/Light
Does this shit ever end!? Good grief. You certainly get a fair amount of use out of this sucker, that's for sure.

9. Gerard Cosmetics Slay All Day Setting Spray in Cucumber
PANNED IT, BABY! It's gone. Kaput. Finished! I still have half a bottle of GC in Coconut but its so much more pleasant to use in that the scent isn't as overpowering or intense so I'm in no hurry to get rid of that.

I think because I took out a number of products last month, the LA Girl brow powder and MUD foundation, and I've panned one item this month I might introduce three new ones to the project. So starting from this month I'll be adding-
10. Milani Conceal + Perfect 2 in 1 Foundation and Concealer in 01 Creamy Vanilla
I loooove this foundation, it's incredible, and the scent is scrumptious but this particular shade I feel will only suit my skin tone for the remainder of the warmer months of early Autumn before I return to being pale as Casper in the winter so the goal will be to get it used up before then. I don't think it'll keep until next summer otherwise.

11. Australis Eyeshadow Primer
This stuff is not my favourite. I'll reach for my Milani matte shadow primer if I want to use one. This one I find is a bit greasy and will crease quickly if not set immediately after applying. The bottle is a peculiar shape and I don't know if it's the same shape in the inside or if it's a narrower tube inside and not as much product as it looks? Anyway it'll be a matter of using it until I can't scrape out any product on the wand.

and
12. Essence All About Nudes
One shade out of this palette that has a nice little dip in it I'll aim to hit pan on, the rest I'll try to incorporate into my day to day makeup routine.

And I think that covers everything for this month! Hopefully next month I'll be back with another product emptied or panned.
